UPDATE: We decided not to let Nissan replace the transmission and we took it to another mechanic. The car was fully checked, the noise was located (it was the heat shield was loose - one small bolt later it was fixed) Transmission was checked and there was nothing wrong with it.

Nissan was trying to scam us into purchasing a new transmission for $5,000!

I have since had an oil change done and had the transmission fluid checked again, and the fluid is still clear! Saved myself $5,000 by NOT having Nissan "fix" what wasn't broken!!!

We purchased a used 2013 Nissan Rogue with 28,000kms on it, approximately 18 months ago. It now has 59,200kms on it and began making a squeaking noise. We had our mechanic look at it to determine where the noise was coming from. He suggested, after a 5 minute test drive, that it could be the transmission since Nissan is known to use CVT transmissions that have a very high failure rate.

We stopped driving the car, and parked it for a week, before we were able to take it over to the local Nissan dealership to see if it was the transmission.

They checked it over and sure enough, it was the transmission. Then we were told that the 5 year warranty had JUST expired 12 days prior to us bringing it in, even though we were still under the 60,000kms. and we would have to wait until Nissan Canada "investigates" to see if they will cover it (or part of it) under their "goodwill" coverage. We have left our car parked at the local dealership now for just over a week while Nissan completed their investigation.

So finally, today we hear back from them, and they tell us that the claim has been denied. No reasoning as to why, other than it was "12 days past the warranty".

So a barely 5 year old car, with less than 60,000kms is now going to cost me over $5,000 for a new/rebuilt transmission and Nissan doesn't care. They just keep pumping out these crap vehicles with extremely high rate of failing CVT transmissions and pump a fortune into advertising them and then they don't back up their product. Sickened to say the least!! BUYER BEWARE!!! Do your research before purchasing a Nissan product. This was our first and, subsequently, LAST ever Nissan purchase.

Reason of review: Damaged or defective.

Monetary Loss: $5000.

Preferred solution: Full refund.
